Description
  • Dinosaur Tree

This children's book tells a story of an old Triassic tree growing in Arizona during the late Triassic, some 225 million year ago--a tree that lives together with other Triassic plants and animals, eventually dies, lands in a river and is carried by flood waters to lowland plains where today fossil logs weather into view from the soft, freshwater stream deposits in Petrified Forest National Park. The story and illustrations take a little inspiration from wandering through both the fossil remains of Triassic flora and fauna and the living examples of old conifers in wild places.  The hardcover book has 32 numbered pages, 17 color pastel illustrations, one little map and a closing glossary.

I picked up a few hundred copies (new, hardcover, english version) when the book went to remainders, the small stock I'm offering here.  Each book will be signed, can include a requested inscription and made unique with a doodle or sketch on the title page--you may request an image or leave it to me. The book will be carefully packed in a Priority US Mail box.  Outside the US, the book will be custom boxed and shipped 1st Class International.

  • Foot Work, Early Drawings

This 8x8 inch self-published book is a collection of early drawings and field sketches that span the first 10 years of my becoming an artist and the simple foundation of my work as an illustrator. The book includes 132 drawings of landscapes, people, places and events of interest and examples of my beginning efforts developing working styles, a sense of composition and a better informed imagination.

The book can be purchased in digital and print form from HP Magcloud, the link provided here:

    http://www.magcloud.com/browse/issue/527729?__r=321571

I suggest selecting Fedex deliver for the small additional charge, as the book is then delivered in a fine, protective box.  The book is only packaged in a clear plastic envelope when sent through the US Mail and is hefty enough to get dinged during shipping.

  • Doodles of a Pleistocene Yellowstone
This selection of doodles began as a minor part of the Mudpie Project, a visual representation of the 2 million year span of the Pleistocene in Yellowstone, a time of repeated volcanism and glaciation. The drawings depict something of this ancient history—often from the perspective of wandering about on foot—based on impressions from hikes, my own film and digital photographs and drawings in the field—informed by books on glaciation, the park’s geology and a few USGS publications.

As a handy means of expressing Yellowstone Pleistocene themes as string-on-finger reminders of ideas to come back to and develop into more finished images, all were done in various small sketchbooks with ballpoint or gel pen, some augmented later with ink and watercolor. A few were scrawled on handy envelopes. There is one pencil sketch, a slap-dash gouache and a pen and ink field sketch (with glacier added on the spot). The simple drawings have been a slow flight of ideas and their number has grown and evolved over time. This book, volume I, covers the years 2014-2017.
